Personality: Randall is a cold and conniving person. He perceives the world as a little game in which he controls the pawns and the rules. He's constantly planning ahead and making exit plans in case things go wrong. Randall is highly intelligent. He tries to read any person who he comes to meet, and find out their really motive. Because of the lucrative businesses and wealth he controls, Randall is extremely paranoid. He hires private investigations to track people if they make the slightest quip about him.
Randall of course is not above murder, he'll destroy anything in his path. He tries to kill his enemies in a quiet fashion, making sure none of the evidence is traced back to him. In terms of demeanor, Randall is a very dry person. He's highly refined and eloquent. He tends to keep to himself and only speaks and commands when it's necessary. When tempered, Randall turns into a beast. His anger shows no bounds, it's truly the one time when nothing will stop him. In his spare time, Randall enjoys books on strategy and philosophy, along with a glass of fine red wine.
Appearance: Randall Avery looks the part. He's an rather average looking man, if it weren't for the clothes, many might not notice him. He stands at 5'10 and weighs 165 pounds. He's always got a very stern and serious look upon his face. He's always been in thought. This can somewhat be intimidating. When his face shows other emotions, it seems almost unnatural and creepy looking. His face also shows his age, while stern it still shows his creepy tiredness and aging.
Randall always looks his finest. All his suits are tailor made and made of the best quality. While going casual, he'll wear a nice polo shirt and khaki pants. Randall might somewhat be recognized by his distinct receding hair line. Besides that, he often wears a full beard. He tries to keep good posture, even when uncomfortable.
Powers/Abilities: Fear Inducing - Randall has the ability to induce fear, anxiety and paranoia within a person. Randall accomplishes this by unknowingly affecting a person's amygdala gland. The amygdala induces fear within a person, thus making the person afraid of Randall. Randall needs to make himself believe that he can scare a person in order for the power to work. Brainwaves transfer from his to the person's, inducing fear.
Once Randall accomplishes a fear within the person, he no longer has to do it himself. Since the person is already afraid of him because of the last meeting, 9 times out 10 they psyche themselves up into fearing Randall already. Randall can not fully understand or comprehend what causes this, he can somewhat feel it within a person when this phenomenon happens. Randall's full potential has not been unlocked, regardless of how long he's had his powers. He can not exactly be sure how far he can push a person's fear of himself onto them, it requires a lot of focus, time and determination in order to discover, something Randall does not have a lot of.
Power Limits: Randall's ability is a very passive and short ranged weapon. While it is a powerful ability, it has failed several times for many reasons. For the most part, all the conditions must be met. The "victim" is easier to induce when disabled and already shocked. Often Randall will make the ritual somewhat like a interrogation, he sets the mood by making the room in which the ritual takes place dark. Then Randall must focus and believe that he can instill great fear into the victim. Finally, the victim must feel that fear, it must resonate within him/her to take affect.
The power is a ritualistic one. On very rare occasions does Randall use it in the open or public. The most vital part of the power is Randall's condition, if he himself feels any fear, the power will not work. After one fatal mistake, Randall once inadvertently used his power on himself. It caused him much pain and he was reluctant to use it again for a long time. In conclusion, while Randall has an amazing power, it's a double edged sword and can be used back on himself.
Brief Character History: Randall Avery was the first born of what would become five children, in O'Toole, Iowa. Randall and his family lived a relatively normal life style. Since Randall was the oldest of the children, he would often help his parents in watching and playing with his younger brothers and sister. At a young age, Randall was a very bright child. He wanted to grow up and make lots of money for his family.
When he was eleven, Randall discovered something about himself. He was special. He had a great power, when thought hard enough he could make people afraid of him. Obviously, he needed to pin the person down but after only thinking about it, he'd make them running away crying. He wasn't sure why or what caused him to do it, but he sure liked it. Because of his power he could make people do what he wanted, make them his toys.
As Randall grew, so did his powers. He never told anyone about them, because he knew they wouldn't understand. After his third year at the University of Iowa, Randall was fed up. He wanted to be rewarded immediately, he was sick of campus life and day to day monotony. He knew that his powers were great. So using his fear inducing powers, he robbed a bank. He did it without any powers or a ski mask. Making seven grown security guards cry without lifting a finger was easy and he even made it out clean with the money.
Randall skipped town with the money. Then in Ohio, his luck ran out. He forgot to induce fear into the heart of one of the security guards, and was shot in the shoulder. He escaped with his life but without the cash. He decided that maybe it was time to go home and start his life back up, but he soon discovered that there were other people like him, people who were special. They didn't have the same abilities but they were useful. Soon, it became a six man team. The called themselves The Collective. They robbed banks with ease after devising simple plans.
Randall again grew tired with the monotony of robbing bank after bank. After discovering that Miami, Florida was a lucrative city waiting for someone to control it, Randall took his Collective there. Within a short amount of time The Collective owned most the businesses in Miami and had all the politicians and detectives in there pockets. Randall recruited more people into The Collective, most special like himself and the rest of The Six. Even when they didn't want to join, Randall would give them a bit of fear in their heart, making them an offer they couldn't refuse. Randall now controls Miami from a penthouse high rise, over looking the city in the palm of his hand.
