/// SPECIAL ABILITY
Matt possesses the ability of Tactile Gravity Manipulation. Through warping the flow of the spatial continuum to redirect gravity, he can, with a touch, make objects and people “fall” in any direction by designating the desired direction as the equivalent of “down.” For example, he can cause a person he is touching to be able to act as if a ceiling were a floor (for instance, walking on it and jumping to touch the room's floor). He can extend this ability to any mass equivalent to an average car and can apply these effects to himself as well. However, simply applying this ability to areas of a larger object can cause structural damage (such as if he uses his power on the support beam of a larger building).
Applications of this ability can range from carrying a simply hand to hand fight into a full three dimensions, causing him and his opponent to “fall” into walls and ceilings to causing a car to “fall” down the length of an expressway after running out of gas. Similarly, he can “fly” (with objects or people in tow) by making himself fall upwards and then in other directions, but only if he has a solid surface in the direction he is falling. For instance, he could fall to the ceiling of a warehouse, but he could not fall into the sky. Objects and people affected by his power are not under his direct control, however, entering a free fall mode until they hit a solid surface.

/// ABILITY LIMITS
The biggest issue with this ability is the fact that the objects affected by this ability are in free fall until they hit a solid surface. Matt can change the direction of the fall, but he cannot soften the impact when they hit a surface. This can be advantageous, but most often, hitting a solid object after a fall is harmful. Secondly, since the object is in free fall, he cannot control the speed at which it falls. The object will continue gaining speed until it hits critical momentum.
As previously stated, this ability must also have a solid surface for Matt to designate as “down.” This is because he is causing an object's personal gravity to become the dominant source of gravitation for the object touched (or himself). However, this solid surface doesn't have to be all that big. He can use something as large as the ceiling of a building or as small as, say, an end table. The solid surface must also be at least known to Matt. For example, if he did not know where the nearest wall was, he could not designate it with his ability, but if he knew it was behind him, he could.
Also, this ability requires a touch, and Matt must continue touching the object if he wishes the effect to continue. If he loses his grasp on the object, the object reverts to responding to gravity as normal, and quite possibly falls. He can use this ability on himself, and objects up to 15 square feet and 2 tons of mass. Anything larger, and the object's own gravitational field deteriorates his power's effectiveness to the point that the most he can do is cause the object to maybe wobble a little. However, if he does use his ability on a larger object, the conflicting gravitational fields may cause strain on the object, warping, bending, or even breaking it if he continues for extended periods of time.
Control is another issue with this power. Since he must maintain physical contact with the object affected, he must also “fall” with the object, and since he has only standard human reflexes, he may not have the time or quick mental processes to enact quick changes in his power. Also, since he has to undergo the stresses of falling, he could get hurt, discombobulated, or otherwise wind up in a state where he could not easily recover from the use of his power. Other than that, he can enact it at will, although the larger the object, more concentration and thought processes are required to affect them. Since this ability is merely his body re-designating sources, it can also happen subconsciously, which is quite a double edged sword. For every time his power has jerked him out of a pinch, he has accidentally woken up on his ceiling and fallen several times over.

/// PERSONALITY
Matt is an incredibly impulsive individual. He's willing to try anything once, damn the consequences, and live like there's no tomorrow. As would be expected from this sort of attitude, he is extremely irresponsible, and distractible. Still, he's the life of the party, and a fun, nice, and generally harmless guy who just doesn't pay attention to those around him all that much unless they're aiding in his all consuming quest to have fun. Once a person is in on the fun, however, they're in for the ride of their lives. It is not unknown for Matt Davis parties to migrate to different cities in their several day runs, and he has an overactive sense of adventure that is often contagious, taking previously innocent bystanders places that their normal inhibitions would never let them go.
Generally, he's in a high flying, life of the party type of mood, with a grin for everyone and a steady stream of conversing. He likes people. People make parties better, and if life is a party, he obviously needs more people in his life. He is almost completely indiscriminate about the people he'll talk to, having equally good times with the old timers sitting at the end of the bar as with his friends at a kegger. Getting along with people comes easily to him, and he's friendly and charismatic to just about everyone he meets.
The problems usually start when he either has to remember their name or the person relies on him to get something done. Matt's life is such a whirl of people, places and experiences, that he really doesn't remember things all that well, and he tends to bail at the mere thought of responsibility. He wants to have fun. Period. End of story. If something infringes on him having fun, he'll usually avoid doing it at any cost. Thus he tends to not hold onto jobs, girlfriends, apartments, or relationships for very long.
Still, despite Matt's shortcomings, he is a very well meaning guy. If he forgets something, it most likely is because he got distracted while doing it. His attention span is short, and his grasp on reality is slippery at best on most days. He really doesn't quite understand his own mortality, and so far seems to have had extraordinary luck at staying alive and (relatively) uninjured. This has fostered a sense of invincibility in him, and this, combined with his congenial nature, often winds up with him biting off more than he can chew.

/// APPEARANCE
Matt isn't the biggest guy in the world, far from it, actually. He stands around 5'8” with a skinny, almost scrawny, frame. His face is animated and, despite being obviously in his twenties, seems quite boyish, mostly due to the glint of mischief that always seems to glimmer in his green eyes. His brown hair is kept pretty short and is almost always mussed up as if he woke up and never bothered to comb out the bed head. He has a light dusting of hair on his body, and (almost surprisingly once you get to know him) doesn't sport any tattoos or piercings, although he has a plethora of small scars, bruises and scrapes from doing stupid stuff.
His clothing usually consists of jeans and t-shirts in varying states of normalcy. Occasionally he'll throw a hoodie or jacket over top, and he usually wears the same pair of battered, navy blue Converse All Stars. His clothes are mostly for comfort and freedom of movement, and if they look good, that's a bonus. He tends to make broad, expressive movements, and walks with a laid back, devil-may-care attitude, nonchalantly dodging people on crowded sidewalks, and seemingly paying little attention to the mundane goings on around him.

/// HISTORY
Matt was born into a pretty average family in Ashland, Ohio. His family lived in town, complete with two loving parents, an older brother (Drew), a live in grandma, and a golden retriever named Murdock in a little house with a white picket fence. His family wasn't the most wealthy family; his dad worked in a factory, and all throughout his youth, his mom was in and out hospitals with heart problems.
He and his brother had mostly the same group of friends, mostly because of Matt's need for constant socialization and pretty good skills at second base . Matt was always the little brother that never backed down from a dare, and often bore the brunt of Drew's friends' practical jokes. Still, his brother's friends generally accepted him as one of their own.
When Matt was in fifth grade, his mother's heart began to get worse. The family started spending quite a bit of time in the hospital with her, watching Miriam Davis's health slowly deteriorate. Needless to say, it was hard on the family, but Matt's dad took it extremely hard, shutting off from the family and leaving the raising of his boys to his mother. Because she was getting on in years, Bernadette Davis couldn't quite keep up with the fast moving social lives of her grandsons.
Matt, still hanging out with his brother's friends, started partying with them before he hit high school. While Drew managed to keep his illicit behaviors on the down low, Matt wasn't so subtle. This led to quite a few raging fights with his father, and culminated in him running away at 16 and getting hauled back home from St. Louis by the cops.
After he graduated from high school, and after a pretty good talking to from his dad and Drew, Matt went to college in St. Louis, majoring in drinking beer and partying and eventually just dropping the whole college deal all together after three years. This decision partially came from an event where he woke up on the ceiling then promptly fell to the floor, breaking his shoulder.
Understandably, he freaked out, and after getting out of the emergency room, he took a trip to Atlanta to visit his brother and figure out what was happening. Drew had also manifested, albeit a totally different ability, and after spending a couple days with his brother, Matt and Drew decided to keep their secret exactly that—a secret. He headed back to St. Louis, and tried to resume his life, dropping out of school a few months later and taking a job as a waiter.
That job didn't last long, and a few years later after getting canned from yet another job as he was job hunting, he was contacted by a law firm. He didn't remember turning in an application there, but he went to the interview anyways. Once there, it was explained to him that the law firm, Taft & Harkinson, was interested in someone of his “abilities.” They gave him a few weeks to think about it, and after a few days, he accepted a probationary period to figure out what it was all about.
The job, so far, has been completely uninteresting. He's walked along with a few people on meeting new clients or information sources, and he's met a few people that most certainly aren't lawyers in offices at T&H. They pay him a pretty decent sum of money, and he has a nice-ish apartment. Life seems good, and he doesn't tend to look gift horses in the mouth. He's even been working there long enough to get vacation days.

The conference room was uncomfortably quiet, and the chair Matt was sitting in was starting to make his butt numb. He'd been there for an hour, just watching the lawyer, Hobson, talk to his defense team and client about..something, he hadn't been paying attention. Management had wanted him to sit in on this talk, and were paying him and giving him free donuts and coffee. Both were excellent for the hangover he was nursing.
Plus the maple sugar frosting was pretty bitchin'.
”You get me the Hell out of this,”
That was bullshit. He wasn't allowed to smoke in here. Taking a sip of his coffee, he grimaced slightly. Not only was it cold, but he'd put too much sugar in. Probably in the earlier part of the meeting when he'd been pretending to listen.
The lady client was on the chopping block for murder or something, and from the sound of things she'd gotten out of it before and was more than sure she'd get out of it again. This was one of the downsides of his otherwise cushy job. Glancing at the clock, he shifted slightly in what had at first appeared to be a comfortable chair, and quickly shifted again as his blue jeans caught uncomfortably under him.
One of the defense team looked at him out of the corner of her eye, obviously not relishing his being there. He seemed to get that a lot around here. Either people didn't know why he was here, or people treated him like they were afraid or disgusted by his presence.
