/// SPECIAL ABILITY
Even though it looks, feels, and (for the most part) behaves like that of normal people, Reuben's impenetrable skin basically covers his body with a powerful armor. In particular, the densely-packed composition of his skin cells account for its durability, impact absorption, and incredible surface tension, without giving it a cold, thick, and inhuman texture.
Because of this, his hide cannot be cut, pierced, or otherwise torn, and such things as toxins and viruses have no chance of breaching its surface. Burning has no effect, and since impact distributes evenly across it, very little harm comes from falling greater-than-normal heights or suffering heavy strikes to his body.

/// ABILITY LIMITS
His skin may be unbreakable, but the rest of his body functions exactly like the average human being. Blood still needs to circulate through his body and air needs to enter his lungs, so cutting off either function would harm him the same as a normal person. While unlikely to harm him, the nerve endings that still cover his skin leave him susceptible to pain, and while he might build up his tolerance of such all he likes, Reuben could still pass out after enduring too much physical strain.
His bones, muscles, and organs, while partly insulated by his skin, are still fairly vulnerable to a certain point, and through enough abuse, they can be broken or damaged. Extreme temperatures can either literally cook his innards, killing him, or cause frostbite and hypothermia, though it takes more exposure to these to cause harm than it would a normal human body. He can still contract illnesses and succumb to poisons if they were to enter his body through his mouth, eyes, or any orifice. Serious damage can generally befall him, but invasive surgery would be impossible unless it were performed by very specific supernatural means.

/// PERSONALITY
Trustworthy, agreeable, jovial—Reuben can be aptly described in so many words. Most might feel he’s an easy person to be around, simply because he enjoys people himself, and tries to seek anyone’s good side—which, in his opinion, is the best place to stay. Granted, not everyone’s possible to please in the way he likes, yet, even then, he tends to let people take advantage of his patience, relative calmness, and good nature, just so he has some chance at winning them over. Of course, should he make the mistake of offending someone, he would be quick to apologize and make amends in whatever (halfway reasonable) way he could. Almost impossible to upset, anger and sadness have little sway over him, and on the incredibly rare chance that these hit, they would occur in such short, weak outbursts that they would be of very little consequence, if of any at all. Of course, to see him visibly happy or excited is another story, since it takes naught but the proverbial drop of a hat to rouse any positive emotions in him.
To aid in matching his emotional tolerance, his entire life has warranted physical resilience for one outstanding reason—Reuben is very, very clumsy. Whether one notices at sight—seeing his movements and mannerisms come around as being somewhat awkward, perhaps unusual, but definitely cumbersome—or by watching him accidentally knock things off a shelf during conversation, his clumsiness is difficult to overlook. He might sometimes be sure to slow himself down so as not to break anything around him, or, truer to his heart, he would sooner get carried away enthusiastically, lose a sufficient sense of vigilance over his surroundings, and neglect to watch where his awkward mannerisms happen to send his hands flying. Awareness is usually not his strong point, though when he applies himself—and in the meantime loses himself in thought—he’s proven quite worthy of wit, intellect, and good observation. Under pressure, he knows how to stay calm and apply himself better than at normal, especially when others are depending on him.
In fact, since he may come across as slow-witted, a degree of patience might be needed in his presence, since most conversations move too quickly for him to catch up—though he’ll certainly smile and nod to give forth the right impression, even if everything started soaring over his head after a while. Regardless, it may either be optimism or simple forgetfulness toward past offenses, but his view of people and the world is certainly fresh. He doesn’t read much into intentions or first impressions, and regrettably, he might be more inclined to believe the best of a person when evidence as to their motives has run dry. For this reason, his gullibility—like his lenience—might be turned against him, or worse, his allies. Risky still is his habit of developing romantic feelings for most anyone, regardless of gender, who shows him proper attention, since his train of thought is easily muddled and thrown off-track. However, even with serious betrayal, Reuben would still find it hard to bear a grudge for long.

/// APPEARANCE
Built husky and solid like a tank, Reuben reaches about five feet and ten inches in height, which gives him no trouble blending in with a crowd. Atop all this, a head of thick and fuzzy black hair sticks straight up from his scalp, generally cut to a short length. His oval-shaped face rests a bit on the round side, and generally bears no facial hair aside from the occasional earlobe-level sideburns. His eyes and mouth are rather small, the latter an almond-like outline with deep brown pupils, and the former boasting rather large lips in comparison. His nose is broad, rather flat, and slightly convex along its bridge.
With an affinity for rather run-of-the-mill clothing, he can almost invariably be seen in the same style when out on the town and not cooped up in his garage, clad in shorts and a snug white t-shirt stained with oil. Usually clothed in a hoodie and graphic tee with either jeans or baggy shorts, and high tops as well. Creative, busy, and otherwise off-beat patterns sometimes deck his clothes, borne against his usual neutral colors, and the shades of green or teal he prefers overall. Of his three piercings, one can be found on his right ear's apex, while the other two are in his earlobes.

/// HISTORY
Paul Kwon and Julie Nam had fallen out with their respective parents, who were conservative folk, after their unexpected, unwed pregnancy was made known. Thus, they moved from Hilo, Hawaii to Seattle, Washington, just in time for their baby boy Reuben to be born later in the summer, and for Paul to undergo his last year of medical school. Not knowing anyone on the mainland, the couple started anew, living a life of sacrifice and humility, which faded away after Paul completed his residency and the two could afford a much better home. They were married when their son was four, and Reuben was homeschooled through much of his childhood, though Julie was quite active with a group of other parents who chose to do the same, so Reuben rarely, if ever, felt too lonely with his lifestyle, spending the majority of time at home with his mother—not that he knew any different.
By the time he was ready to go to high school, though, after deciding for himself that he just might enjoy a more structured environment with a wider selection of kids to befriend, his parents folded and allowed him to go to public school. However, even though he made plenty of friends in a short period of time thereafter, he struggled with schoolwork. Although he hesitated to tell, his report card exposed his poor grades and concerned his parents, though his issues with paying attention were resolved with medication. After that, while still an average student, his grades were much better than before. When he followed suit with the other kids, dating and such, it seemed that gender wasn’t an issue with whom he found attractive, having really never considered the idea before. Knowing his parents were open-minded, though, he felt comfortable bringing home potential love interests and making known whomever he was dating to his parents, girl or boy.
With his sixteenth birthday came a surprise in the garage, where, since he was slated to get his license the next week, he was given his very own scooter. His parents knowing his fondness toward motorcycles and feeling he was responsible for such, Reuben waited on pins and needles for a week until he could drive the thing everywhere he wanted. Of course, the very day it was possible to do so, Reuben spent hours riding his scooter through the city, while his parents waited at home, nervous. Around the time of sunset, though, after he had gotten a fair distance out of the city and found a place with plenty of twists and curves in the road, he somehow managed to veer off the road and crash, despite his relatively slow speed. Shaken by the accident and yet left without a scratch on him, he called his parents, who forbade him to drive for two weeks out of concern. After that, it was fairly quick for him to recover from things, especially since it was only the scooter that was damaged.
Not long after, while he was taking out the garbage one night, he had realized the ground felt somewhat more coarse than normal, but failed to realize he had been walking on broken glass for a good deal of his trip to the curb and back. He went back inside and, instead of telling his parents right away, he pieced together the proverbial puzzle and took a knife out of the drawer, running the blade over his forearm with intensifying speeds. Like the time where his scooter crashed, there wasn’t any evidence he had been cut. Thus, immediately afterward, Reuben told his parents, and was surprised to learn that his father had a secret of his own, proven when Paul made his own skin move according to his will. Though neither he nor his father knew exactly the reason why, Reuben felt somewhat empowered by knowing he couldn’t easily be harmed.
He started living less cautiously then before, simply because he thought he could, but things went on like normal. When graduation came nearer, though, he and his boyfriend at the time, Taylor Finch, were just about constantly wondering what to do after high school. College was always an option, of course, but neither one felt very thrilled with the prospect. Still, Reuben appeased his parents with hollow promises of higher education, but the last thing he really wanted was more stress and hard work. When graduation rolled around, despite being excited that his parents bought him a new motorcycle, he made it known that he had no plans to attend college. Instead, he and Taylor wanted to take a few years to enjoy themselves elsewhere, seeking freedom from their parents. They would move to Phoenix, Arizona, where Taylor’s cousin, Tyson Keller, lived, and build on their plan from there. Reuben’s parents were somewhat disappointed, but they knew their son would be happy. At the end of summer, Reuben rode his motorcycle off into the sunset with Taylor, setting Phoenix as their goal.
Reuben tolerated plenty of bickering on the way, but it didn’t even end after they moved in with Tyson, contrary to what was expected. Instead, dealing with his insecurity and uncertainty as to their situation, Taylor seemed to grow more controlling over Reuben, who put up with such behavior without complaint. However, as things built up higher, Reuben found he was getting tired of Taylor’s jealousy and clinginess, but the only other person to intervene was Tyson. Taylor and Reuben broke up before long, but the incredibly awkward living situation was made worse when Taylor, attempting to win Reuben back (to control him, no doubt), kept bringing his latest love affairs home, and pouring on the affection to make it ever clearer to his former boyfriend. Reuben was apathetic, having gotten used to such treatment, but Tyson had enough. The cousins broke into an argument one night and Tyson warned Taylor to shape up or leave, but the night ended up forcing the younger one into the latter choice. After that, things were peaceful around the apartment like never before.
