Personality:
First impressions vary with Rosetta, depending on when one catches her. She tends to approach new situations quietly, observing attentively and taking notes. When she feels she knows enough, however, she quickly steals the attention by voicing her opinions. She can often come off as very bull-headed and boisterous, has a deep, heavy, and infectious laugh when amused, and a loud, threatening voice when in confrontations. Whatever the occasion, Rosetta is never wrong, and she will be heard. She recognizes that her tendancy to present her opinions in an overly aggressive or bludgeoning way is a problem, thanks especially to Drayman, whom holds a great deal of Rosie's respect and admiration. She strives to learn all that she can from whom she believes in to be one of the wisest men of the time. Her dedication to the ideals and cause of The Archivists is solid and unshakable, right down to the deep roots of her passion, and Rosie is certainly a very passionate individual. It's often enough the cause for her opinionated outbursts!
Rosetta cannot stand those she calls 'dirty' people. People who lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate to achieve their ends. She is a person of purpose and honor, but not of mercy, and often struggles to hold herself back when faced with someone who has done wrong to her or those she cares about. To political advesaries of The Archivists, she is often jokingly referred to as 'Drayman's pitbull' in comments referencing the fear of her being let 'off her leash'. It might, in all honesty, not be far from the truth as analogies go. Considered a fanatic by her opponents, Rosetta most certainly would bring down the thunder to those who have wronged her new family, and her bite is far worse than her bark. She enjoys attention, and carries herself with pride, dignity, and class.
Appearance
Rosetta is a big woman, with a big laugh, big smiles, and a big voice. She has a very smooth mocha complexion, and loves to take very good care of her hair and nails as well, treating herself to salon visits regularly. Her hair style changes constantly, and she enjoys jewellry made from gold and precious stones. She wears a lot of very fashionable dresses and clothing, and carries a very fashionable handbag made from quality, imported crocodile leather, and favors a lot of variations of gray, brown, black, white, beige, or gold in terms of clothing. She dislikes high heels, feeling clumsy in them, but will wear shorter, wider heels for special occasions. When in leisure, she prefers to wear dress shoes made by a brand that boasts comfort in their products, which she happily confirms.
Powers/Abilities:
Implosion
Rosetta has a very rare and potent ability that certainly requires a great deal of concentration and caution in general. By concentrating on a specific point within fairly close range, she can cause an implosion to occur. Implosion, being the opposite of explosion, means that outward from the target point, everything is pulled inward in a flash within a precise distance of the target point. Unlike explosions, which are shaped by their surroundings as well as the amount of force included, the implosions may vary in size, but are always perfect, precise spherical fields. As Rosie's mastery over her ability grows, so too does the amount of force she can apply to an implosion.
Power Limits:
In early manifesting stages, she'd be limited to claiming light objects, and doing only minor possible structural damage to anything else surrounding the target point, such as tearing fabrics and such... but Rosie has had a number of years to learn how to use her gift, and some of them include the kind of mastery guidance that can rarely be found outside of The Archivists. She is capable of creating implosions that are powerful enough to tear out chunks of solid wall and concrete, not to mention any human parts left to the misfortune of the blast zone. Aimed directly enough, Rosie can simply kill an individual outright, making her one of the more dangerous advesaries to those who would oppose the group.
The amount of focus required in causing an implosion, however, is quite intense, and it essentially boils down to a formula involving the target distance versus her own level of concentration, the size of the implosion she aims to create, and the amount of implosive force she aims to apply. The kind of implosions that could tear a hole through a wall or some other very heavy object or material require so much of her energy, that using implosions that powerful more than several times within the timespan of a day will leave her reeling.
Overexertion leads to dizziness, flashes of feeling hot and fatigued, and possibly even fainting or blacking out. Also, to present the scope of just how far Rosie's power can truly reach, she can't carry out an implosion at a distance of over thirty feet. At that distance, implosions tend to be no larger than a foot in diameter, and beyond that, the implosions seem to begin, but fizzle out, resulting in little more than a brief vaccum that does not result in the destruction of matter caught within it's meager range.
Brief Character History:
Born in Virginia, Rosetta grew up in a very poor family, in the city of Norfolk. Although there was little money to go around, she learned early on from her mother and father that class and dignity aren't worn, they come from the inside. Throughout school, she was entirely consistent, always analyzing things as best she could, and proceeding with full-on conviction when she felt confident. Her grades in school weren't top-of-the-class, but they were excellent marks, and she always felt a bit beyond her peers while in school, so her social life during those years took a secondary position to her academics.
It was halfway through high school that Rosetta had settled on her career decision, and years later, she had become a teacher. Her outspoken tendencies took no exception during this period, in which she had plenty to say to the transparently insecure teenagers she dealt with while educating. She seemed to work with a passion for guiding the youth, operating on a simple belief that it was up to her to steer them all into the right direction. After a few years, it was evident to her coworkers and superiors that although her teaching skills were efficient, she'd truly shine in a career with a more direct approach in terms of helping. Thus, she became a social worker working through the school system, and proudly feels that she did a great deal of good for many kids during that period.
Eventually, she met a boy by the name of Justin Remington, who had gotten into trouble over an altercation in the cafeteria. Her talk with him revealed that he was indeed under a great deal of stress, and although she couldn't relate with many of the factors, such as the cause of the altercation, she was surprised when he confessed that he believed himself to be possessed by a demon.
A 'demon' granting the boy an uncanny range of control over the shadows, which he happily demonstrated to the skeptical Rosetta. Although she certainly seemed shocked, it was he who was more so, when she told him that he was not possessed by a demon, he had merely been trusted with a very special gift... just like she had.
Several sessions were arranged after school between the two, as Justin tentatively shared other aspects of his life with Rosetta, who aimed to support the frightened and troubled youth. Although he wasn't very forthcoming at all about his home life details, he appeared to be very happy with his home life, and his struggles at school centered around learning to control his ability, and coping with classmates that were less-than-accepting of his relationship with not one, but two other male students.
Abruptly, however, the last arranged session was replaced by a strange and brief visit from Justin's father. Although he expressed a great deal of gratitude for her supporting Justin, he informed her that they would be moving away immediately, and ask her to say nothing to anyone about the affair. The brief visit ended when he admired her rare and valuable capacity to show support to what he referred to as "their" people, and left her with a card that would lead her down a new path, offering greater opportunities to make a difference.
Rosetta struck gold when she met with Dorsey Drayman, who flew all the way to Norfolk simply to have dinner with her and tell her more about his own group, a group known as The Archivists. She became quickly enthralled with the cause, and after several more generous visits from Drayman, transferred to Phoenix, where she now balances her work with the group along with her continued work as a social worker. When it came to The Archivists, she was already passionate, and dove straight in, striking gold. She earned the trust of the council very quickly, and was eventually made into a council member, despite her confrontational tendencies.
