Variable Intricacy is an original RPG set in the "Heroes" universe; it involves ordinary people who discover themselves with extraordinary abilities and in unusual situations, but VI is fanon-based. No canonical characters or events from the series are in use.

Alignments: Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good
The Taft & Harkinson Law Firm was founded in 1999 by Loren Harkinson and Victoria Taft. They have a number of political angles as well as a hidden interest in more obscure subject matter. They take a lot of cases for certain corporations and also do work for shadier groups within the government. Harkinson seems to be the primary tie between the firm and a widely-popular soda company known as AuraFiz, while Taft carries more of the government-oriented ties. While little of their secrets are known to the public, what is clear is that the firm's power and influence is unquestionably solid.
A powerful gang that has arisen in Miami, headed by a small and tight-knit council of experienced and developed specials who use their abilities to increase their power, and wealth, as well as the reach of their domain. They are structured as a hierarchy, with various echelons of command within, and tend to specialize in their strengths and utilize teamwork in their accomplishments. With even some officials in their pockets, their control has sprawled throughout the criminal underground, and they have become a powerful force that is difficult to challenge; a menace.

Everybody knows AuraFiz! It's the hottest beverage on the market! What started as a craze over a simple, seemingly addictive soda has spread like wildfire in terms of corporate expansion. AuraFiz now carries sports drinks, various snacks, energy drinks, coffees, and an impressive line of herbal teas. If that isn't enough, they've recently released a kid's cereal called AuraPopz! and are due to expand into sporting goods productions sometime next fall. What people don't know is that under the disarming and glittery shell of AuraFiz lies a troubling underbelly; numerous secret labs carry out bio-tech research and use state-of-the-art technology to collect data from the everyday consumer...

In 1978, in Central America, an artifact was discovered on the site of an elaborate temple to the Mayan sun god. A tablet was hidden away beneath a small shrine to the Mayan god of eclipses, which was hidden in the shadow of the pyramid's peak. The Temple of Ah-Ciliz was formed by a small group of people who came to possess the tablet, and to the present day, they have grown in numbers. While they are seen from the outside to be something of a cult, they have maintained a strong ethical standing and have expanded to include specials under their protection or those who know about them and are interested in the Temple's causes. This group is collectively known as The Archivists, and it's outer-layer members aren't necessarily involved with the spiritual aspects of the Temple.

The Mayhem. They are the nocturnal underground that has taken control of the dusk-til-dawn of Atlanta. They tend to include anyone from party-throwers to traffickers or other kinds of criminals making use of the night life. All members of Mayhem share one thing in common: they do what they want, when and how they want to do it, with no real heed to the law at all. Deep beneath the surface of the group, Mayhem is more organized than it would seem, and utilizing special abilities for profit isn't a foreign concept. While they frequently break the law, they also act quickly to silence any 'loud' super-powered menaces who might bring too much spotlight to their kind. The average person doesn't know that specials exist, and the Mayhem like to keep it that way, right on down to the shady mafia-esque ties that lurk deep at it's core.

A small group that operates under the leadership of Isabela Sharp, as an agency that often helps the authorities with varied services such as photography, sketch artistry, and others. In truth, Sharp's Agency employs a handful of specials, and as Isabela's ability develops, she has found herself motivated to even take action to solve and even prevent crimes. In secret, the Agency has taken actions beyond the law on several occasions to prevent the continued crimes of criminals who have managed to escape justice.
